RSS is an abbreviation that means many things – Really Simple Syndication; Rich Site Summary and so on … – but for Co-op News it means that all news stories are more accessible for readers.
Whether you own a PC, a Mac or just have a mobile phone it means that you can view the latest news from the co-op and mutual sectors as it's published.
You can access stories on this website as usual, or you can download one of the many free RSS readers that will automatically download the latest headlines from this website to your computer.
From there you can keep your own personal archive of the co-op news that interests you and access it whenever you want.
To get started, download one of the many newsreaders below and add http://www.thenews.coop/rss.php as one of the news channels.
If you have a Windows-based computer download any of these readers (please note we have tested these links and files, and cannot be held liable for any virus or any subsequent damage to your computer – please use your virus scanner as usual!):
Omea Reader – http://www.jetbrains.com/omea/reader/
Awasu – http://www.awasu.com/
For Mac users our recommendations are:
Vienna (our favourite) – http://www.opencommunity.co.uk/vienna2.html
NetNewsWire Lite – http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/#lite
Or for Mac OS X (Tiger) users you can bookmark Co-op News in your Safari RSS folder and choose to view the latest news in your screensaver by going to System Preferences –> Screensaver –> choose RSS Visualiser -> select Options and choose Co-op News from the list.
People who use Linux can download:
Liferea – http://liferea.sourceforge.net/
Straw – http://www.gnome.org/projects/straw/
If you're feeling more adventurous, and you have a PDA (Personal Desktop Assistant) mobile phone or computer then you can download Co-op News through AvantGo – http://www.avantgo.com/frontdoor/index_uk.html.
When you have registered an AvantGo account click here to add Co-op News as one of your channels.
