Demand for social reform

March 15 2009

Jonathan Bland of the Social Enterprise Coalition said the Coalition had hosted visits or dealt with inquiries from more than 30 different countries over the past few years and said “the essence of social enterprise is the same” across the world, “it’s about empowerment — using the power of the market for social good”.

Mr Bland, who recently returned from an event in Paris, said that interest in social enterprise was growing in all areas of the world. “From the States and Canada to Europe, Australia and Asia — people are looking to work together.”

This growing interest was confirmed when the first Social Enterprise World Forum was held last September in Edinburgh.

Following its success, future events are being planned for Melbourne in October, San Francisco next year and Johannesburg in 2011.
